Broward Center for the Performing Arts is a state-of-the-art cultural facility located in downtown Fort Lauderdale on the New River in the historic Himmarshee arts and entertainment district.

The impressive property features two theaters with over 3,000 seats. Featuring year-round performances and great variety, there is generally something for everyone to enjoy. Notable events at Broward Center include theater, music, dance and comedic performance of the highest caliber.

In Fall 2012, Broward Center broke ground on a dramatic $50 million expansion plan, named ENCORE! Building Community through the Arts. The ceremony took place in the Au-Rene Theater, which has since received an impressive renovation, including all new seating in the Club Level. Additional upgrades included new lighting, sound and air conditioning systems, all of which are aimed at enhancing the experience for all guests.

Broward Center ENCORE!

Currently underway are improvements to the lobbies. In the Au-Rene Theater, there will be a new bar that will serve as a centerpiece – in addition to serving food and beverages to patrons. The Intermezzo Tasting Rooms are being expanded and will include a design that creates a vintage wine and culinary experience before performances and during intermissions. In addition, rest rooms are being redesigned and additional seating areas are  being added. Outside, the Peck Courtyard is getting a redesign that will include shade canopies. These improvements are scheduled to be finished later in 2013.

In early 2014, construction on the much anticipated Huizenga Pavilion is scheduled to be completed. The new two-story structure with a glass facade will offer casual waterside dining in the first-floor New River Bistro. Also on the first floor will be the Rose Miniaci Arts and Education Center. Once open, the center will offer classes, performances and arts-in-education activities for students of all ages. On the top floor with be the Porter Riverview Ballroom, which is currently accepting reservations for private receptions and events.
