Riverwalk Water Trolley

There’s a new mode of transportation on Fort Lauderdale’s historic New River and its free! Introducing the Riverwalk Water Trolley, a 48 passenger, environmentally-friendly diesel electric vessel that offers bicycle stows and is wheelchair accessible.

“The New River is essentially the first highway in the City of Fort Lauderdale,” said Robyn Chiarelli, Executive Director of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Association in a recent press release. “Our goal is to make it as easy to cross the New River as it is to cross any street. We are building on the city’s many multimodal options to provide connectivity for our customers.”

Welcome aboard! The trolley will operate seven days a week between the hours of 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. Passengers can hop on or off at any of the eight designated stops along the route.

Stops on the NORTH side of the New River
•    Esplanade Park
•    Riverfront Plaza
•    Huizenga Plaza
•    Riverwalk Laura Ward Park

Stops on the SOUTH side of the New River
•    Smoker Park
•    Downtowner Saloon
•    New River Yacht Club
•    Tarpon River

The trolley is estimated to stop at each of the eight locations every 20 to 30 minutes and will run from one side of the river to the other in a zigzag fashion, allowing passengers to cross the river in about five minutes. Curious when the next trolley is coming? There’s an App for that! You can download and use the award-winning Sun Trolley Tracker App to see where the trolley is in real-time.

“The Riverwalk Water Trolley truly takes advantage of Fort Lauderdale’s natural infrastructure making it easier for patrons to get to and from the restaurants, bars, parks, museums and entertainment venues that Fort Lauderdale has to offer,” said Chiarelli.
