Baires Grill Las Olas

The “Opening Winter 2021” sign has finally made way for this Argentinean steakhouse on Las Olas Boulevard. The restauranteur started with one location in 1999 and has grown to six locations throughout South Florida. Other locations include Brickell, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Sunny Isles and Weston.

The menu has a nice variety. The expected meat options are complemented by items from the sea, pasta dishes, salads and of course desserts. Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, all drinks are 50% off. For a limited time, Happy Hour is extended an extra hour, until 7:00 PM.

Evelyn’s

Located in the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale, this poolside restaurant overlooking the beach offers an upmarket approach to Eastern Mediterranean and Florida coastal cuisine. The restaurant is named after Evelyn Fortune Lilly Bartlett, the original owner of the historic Bonnet House.

Two of our favorite appetizers include the locally sourced micro vegetables, and the stone fired pita served with hummus and charred red pepper with pomegranate sees, walnuts and coriander. Look other interesting dishes like spiced cauliflower couscous, grilled whole branzino dressed in coriander seed chermoula, cilantro and rose petals; and  wagyu beef kibbeh with Florida Key Lime tzatziki.

Fogo de Chão

This restaurant is considered a churrascaria — a type of Brazilian steakhouse known for its unique buffet serving method. With a disc signal, waiters will bring signature cuts of fire-roasted meat to your table and carve out a portion upon request. The all-you-can-eat option includes the market table and feijoada bar, where you can find salads, vegetables, soups and cured meats.

Saturdays and Sundays you can enjoy an all day happy hour at Bar Fogo. The happy hour includes beers, South American Wines and Brazilian-inspired cocktails.

The Katherine

Patrons might recognize this space as the former Foxy Brown. The new establishment is named after chef/owner Timon Balloo’s wife (her middle name), while the menu taps into his Chinese-Indian-Tranidadian heritage. Served on mismatched china in a bistro-like ambiance, menu options include a variety of seafood, vegetables, and comfort foods made more magical by Balloo’s signature touch.

This quaint, casual restaurant features traditional New England lobster rolls with sustainably sourced, wild caught Maine lobster. Other menu items include lobster mac & cheese, lobster bisque, shrimp and corn chowder, tacos, truffle Parmesan fries, Key Lime pie, whoopee pie, craft beers and wines. Portions are on the smaller side but very memorable.

Planta Queen

This restaurant features a relaxed, upscale dining experience on Las Olas Boulevard. Using 100% plant-based ingredients, Planta Queen’s menu reimagines and reinvents popular Asian-inspired items like sushi, noodles, dumplings, salads, bao bun sliders and more! One of our favorite menu items is the ahi watermelon nigiri. We recommend ordering the nigiri, tasting it, then asking your server how it was prepared.

Santiago’s Bodega

A staple on the Key West dining scene for over 17 years, Santiago’s Bodega opened their fourth location in Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s hip Flagler Village neighborhood. The menu consists of an international tour of cold and hot tapas, or small dishes. Two of our favorite dishes are the spicy lentil soup and the yellowfin tuna ceviche. Folks at the table next to us raved about the petite-rack lamb.

Parking in Flagler Village can be challenging at times. Choosing the wrong spot could result in a ticket. Fortunately, this establishment has a private parking lot in the back.

Timpano

This isn’t technically a new restaurant. Timpano was a favorite downtown Fort Lauderdale restaurant for over 20 years. It closed for about two years, underwent a multi-million dollar renovation and reopened in August 2022.  Now we’re welcoming back on old friend to a new list.

The reimagined Timpano Las Olas offers a bold approach to contemporary Italian with modern twists on classic dishes, an extensive wine list, a rare whiskey program, and creative craft cocktails. One of our favorite appetizers is the Old School Skillet-Roasted Mussels.
